A teacher and two classroom aides have recently been arrested after a student’s mother recorded them allegedly abu*ing not only her daughter but all the students. She hid a recording device in her daughter’s hair and caught the teachers red-handed.
According to CNN, Amber Pack of Berkley County, West Virginia, started getting suspicious when her daughter, who suffers from autism, came home one day with mysterious bruises. Pack’s daughter Adri is nonverbal, and so she was not able to reveal to her mother what was wrong.
One day the 6-year-old began crying on the bus ride home and she did not want to go to school after that and that us when Pack decided to take action. Pack bought a recording device and hid it in her daughter’s bun.
Ben Salango, their lawyer said about the recording the mother found, “When she came back, she was just horrified and could not believe what she heard.”
During the 8-hour long recording, Pack clearly heard Adri’s teacher, Christina Lester, and two other teaching aides, June Yurish and Kristin Douty, allegedly threatening students.
The recording is also said to have captured some jaw-dropping verbal abuse including threats to withhold food if students misbehaved. The teachers were also caught saying things like, “I ought to backhand you right in your teeth. How is that for anxiety?” and “This one I could punch her right in her face.”
“I’m going to pull your hair until you start crying,” one said at another point.
In one portion of the tape, an adult said: “You got to go pee-pee? Pee-pee? Or do you not have to go pee-pee and you just want to go [expletive] in a chair?”
Talking about all this she said, “I couldn’t eat for three days. My stomach. I was so upset. Every time I looked at her I would start crying.”
The mom decided to report it to the police. The teachers are saying that they have been talking to each other in the recording and not saying anything to the students but Pack and her lawyer aren’t buying that claim.
Salongo alleged, “To make matters worse, the deputy superintendent called the principal to tell Pack to destroy the file. It’s in writing.”
The mom also took to social media and shared the audio recordings on her Facebook, where more than 10 million people heard them within 24 hours.
After the footage went viral, a civil lawsuit has been filed against the teachers. The lawsuit has now been extended to include Principal Amber Boeckmann and Berkeley County Deputy Superintendent Margaret F. Kursey, who are charged with “actively tried to hinder the investigation and obscure evidence with a flawed investigation, an order to destroy the recording and a failure to report the matter to Child Protective Services.”
