Health authorities in the United States are investigating a spate of strange lung diseases believed to be connected to the use of e-cigarettes and vaping.
A CNN report of state wellbeing divisions found at least 120 cases of lung illness or damage have been identified in 15 states, with many of those affected teenagers and young adults. A large number of individuals have been hospitalized, and some are even in serious consideration and on ventilators.
Doctors have said it is as yet indistinct whether there is a connection between the cases, and if vaping conclusively caused the diseases. They have also said it is not known whether or not the patients will fully recover.
CNN reports that states, where the most people have been affected, include Wisconsin, where there have been 15 confirmed cases and 15 more under investigation, Illinois, where 10 cases have been confirmed and 12 are under investigation, and California, which has said it is looking into 19 cases.
Dr. Howard Zucker, the health commissioner for New York State, said in a statement: “While many people consider vaping to be a less dangerous alternative to smoking cigarettes, it is not risk free, These latest reports of pulmonary disease in people using vaping products in New York and other states are proof that more study is needed on the long-term health effects of these products.”
