Being a mother is difficult. It becomes harder to raise a child while studying. It simply means that the classes will be missed and compromises will have to be made. In such situations, expecting teachers to be understanding is not very common. But this mother learned very quickly that her teacher is very cooperative towards her situation in a tweet that is now going viral.
21-year-old Morgan King, mother of a baby girl, is studying therapeutic recreation at the University of Tennessee. She had to miss an important class to take care of her child because she was not able to arrange external help for the day. Her professor, Sally B. Hunter, quickly noticed that she has not attended the class and inquired why.
When she got to know the reason of his student’s absence, Hunter insisted that in future, she should just bring her daughter to class.
“In the future, if you are having trouble finding someone to watch Korbyn, please feel free to just BRING HER with you to class. I would be absolutely delighted to hold her while I teach, so that you can still pay attention to the class and take notes. I work for the Department of CHILD and FAMILY Studies — so how terrible would it be, if I was unwilling to have a child visit our class? I’m very serious with this offer—just bring Korbyn with you!”
Overwhelmed with happiness and also a bit surprised, she posted a photo of this letter onto Twitter, and the post quickly got viral. This whole story does have a beautiful message that showing compassion towards working mothers can go a long way in making our society a happy place to live.
