A man has recently come out of a closet and admitted that he is gay. He decided to be vocal about it after his ex-wife and son both came out before him.
Bruce Downe from Connecticut come out as gay after 23 years of marriage with his ex-wife. He also attended the New York City Pride Parade along with his son to celebrate his true-self.
The 53-year-old told the New York Post, ‘I finally was strong enough to say I don’t want to live this life anymore, I don’t want to continue to live a lie.’
‘I wanted to live my true life,’ he told the publication.
Downe divorced his wife Joanne Hamilton, in 2017, and she quickly revealed that she was actually a lesbian. She is now engaged to another woman.
Bruce explained, ‘I didn’t know she was gay and she didn’t know I was gay and we were married for 23 years.’
Before Bruce embraced his true self, it was actually his son Tyler who first came out as gay.
Tyler said, ‘I sort of knew before he told me. It was easy to talk to him because I knew he would understand.’
The father-son duo now experienced the Pride Parade together. They both were clad in tiaras.
Tyler was attending for the first time this year. Bruce’s eldest son is the only person who is straight.
Bruce said, ‘I am now very happy. I love the person I am, no self-hatred. Today, I’m celebrating with my community. It makes me feel so proud.’
