Brody Jenner has been slammed online after he misgendered his father, Caitlyn Jenner, twice in his debut episode of The Hills: New Beginnings.
Brody, son of Caitlyn and Linda Thompson, was seen at a dinner in the premiere for the MTV reboo with one of the cast member Frankie Delgado when his wife, Kaitlynn, was brought up in conversation.
The show then cut to an interview with him where he talked about his father transitioning from a man to a woman and how he picked the same name as Brody’s wife.
Brody said, ‘My dad, he also became a woman — don’t wanna forget about that one! I had been dating Kaitlynn Carter for four and a half years, and my dad came out and said that he wanted to be called Caitlyn. Two Caitlyns….’
Many people caught up on the issue of using a ‘he’ twice in the statement instead of ‘she’ to describe his father.
One viewer wrote on Twitter after watching the interview, ‘Brody Jenner remains a pile of trash + seems to really enjoy purposely misgendering Caitlyn Jenner.’
When Caitlyn, 69, first decided to transition to a woman in 2015, she was very careful with her six children when it came to using pronouns.
Both Kendall and Kylie Jenner started referring to their father as a ‘she’ out of respect for her transition. They still call her dad after asking if he is okay with it.
On the other hand, Brody seems to have a problem with the use of pronouns.
Another person wrote, ‘The Hills reboot has delivered everything and more: Whitney reaction shots, Audrina staring blankly, so many f**king crystals, Brody being a tool and misgendering Caitlyn, PAMELA ANDERSON MOVING TO FRANCE TO AVOID TRUMP AMERICA, [and] dragging Perez Hilton.’
Regarding his children, Caitlyn previously told Broadly: ‘I spend a lot of time by myself here in the house. I have a lot of children, but sometimes just because of circumstances, maintaining a close relationship with your kids is very tough. They all have lives. They’ve all moved on. We’re just human beings; we’re going to be here for a very short time. We come and we go and at the end, when it’s all said and done, hopefully your family is going to be there.’
Though there might be tension between Brody and Caitlyn, fans do not deem it fit to not use your dad’s preferred pronouns.
One fan wrote, ‘The shade that came from Brody’s first interview towards his dad Caitlyn #interesting.’
