Chilling photographs have recently gone viral that shows a python swallowing an entire massive crocodile after it squeezed the life out of the larger reptile in a murky Australian swamp.
In the photo, the snake’s jaws can be seen devouring the entire freshwater crocodile with the rest of its muscular length constricting around the beast in Queensland.
The Olive python is Australia’s second largest snake. The photos show the bulging midriff of the animal that is the bulk of the crocodile beneath its scaly skin. One of the gruesome shows the crocodile’s ridged tail indented on the snake’s throat.
The grisly scene was spotted by Kayaker Martin Muller while he was moving down the swamps in Mount Isa. The experts have revealed that the pythons often target crocodiles despite the obvious risk.
GG Wildlife Rescue Inc owner Michelle Jones keeps two olive pythons as pets. She says, ‘It’s common for them to eat pretty much anything if they can fit it in their mouth.’
Ms Jones also added that the pythons can ‘unhinge their jaw’ in order to extend their bite. She also said that it is not uncommon for a python to eat a crocodile.
Freshwater crocodiles do not attack humans unless in self-defence. And the olive pythons are not venomous.
The images were posted to the GG Wildlife Rescue Inc Facebook page and immediately went viral with 10,000 plus responses.
People were stunned seeing a python overpowering and eating an entire crocodile. But many wondered whether Mr Muller had put himself in unnecessary danger to capture the extraordinary images.
One user commented, ‘Amazing pictures! I thought the croc would have won.’
While other asked, ‘My only questions is why the f*** would any sane human being be kayaking in a place where there are snakes that can swallow a crocodile whole?’
‘This is definitely on my list of top 10 ways I don’t want to die.’
