One man in Poland probably woke up with more than a hangover last week, after driving a Soviet tank through a town while drunk.
The man was fully drunk, drove the T-55 tank along the roads of Pajęczno on Thursday night (June 13). When police arrived at the scene after receiving a number of reports, they found the Soviet-era tank parked on a central roadway.
The tank belonged to Poland’s military and, while the driver was authorized to operate the vehicle, he obviously strayed from his directed route and task.
The driver was supposedly ordered by his bosses to just move the tank between two transportation trailers so it could be shipped out. Rather, he took the tank out for a moonlight trip through the downtown area. They also likely expected him to remain sober while operating the 36-ton armoured combat vehicle.
To make matters worse, local media report that there was no insurance policy on the tank. Police were unable to get the tank off the street and onto a trailer until 5 am.
This joyride could cost the driver two years behind the bars fo drink and drive case, and up to eight years for creating a dangerous situation, although there are no reports of anything being destroyed or run over during the escapade.
